People who are cruel to animals should be punished. The law of the land should intervene, and a trial should take place. Animals are innocent, so we have to protect them.
I say that abusing an animal is just as serious as abusing a person. Therefore, the punishment should be according to the crime.

I love the irony of all these people condemning cruelty towards animals while recommending cruelty towards a human being. If u perpetrate it against someone, no matter what they've done then it makes u as bad as them. The need for revenge is a basic human emotion but that doesn't mean we have to run with it. Abuse (of animals and humans) is a complex matter and there is no simple solution. More cruelty certainly wont solve anything. I would think that most people who perpetrate cruel acts on animals have at some point been abused in some way themselves and most likely need psychiatric help.
You would all do well to remember what Ghandi is reputed to have said....."An Eye for an Eye leaves the whole world Blind"

ever heard of the saying 'an eye for an eye'???
Inflict the same treatment back to them (but I like the idea of multiplying that by 10 - after all the animal was innocent although the person wasn't), then ban them from ever having children or animals again. If they can't even look after an animal then they certainly should never be trusted with a child.

I know this is very un politically correct of me, but I think that someone should do to those sort of people exactly what they did to the animal in question.
Where I live there was a story about these kids who grabbed hold of some pigeons and tied their legs together with wire. I got really upset that someone could do that.
So they should basically be tortured themselves for harming other living creatures.

I think they should be publicly shamed with a photo in a national newspaper in a regular column space that is updated weekly or daily that details the crime they have committed.
They should also face a Jail term and they should also be put to community service caring for and helping animals .i.e. RSPCA or SSPCA.

These "people" if i can call them that should be let lose amongst a crowd of anti cruelty supporters (animal rights supporters) and let them decide their punishment. I'd be amongst the ones that gives them a swift kick up the old ***. They dont deserve the time of a judge and the tax payers money!!!

Give them a dose of their own medicine, but to be honest i'm not a cruel person, so a severe bo**ocking and a report to an animal care society and police. Then i'd be watching them myself to see if they do it again.

They would be branded with a hot iron, using the initials AA (Animal Abuser) right in the middle of their foreheads. They would also be heavily fined, and banned from keeping any animal ever again.
Sadly I would be the one seen as going too far and thisd kind of thing would never be allowed in our so called 'modern' society.

Do you mean after docking their tails, cropping their ears, pulling all their nails out, tying them up outside in all weathers, starving them and letting them go thirsty, leaving them in a hot car to die of heatstroke, never letting them receive medical care when they're ill, giving them a kick to the backside or ribs, and withdrawing all affection? Well, after all of this, I'd sentence these people to doing community service for life.
