If he's alive he will swim to the surface every so often for air. This might be a swim bladder issue. Maybe you are over feeding him. Bettas will happily eat too much and get bloated and/or constipated. This compresses their swim bladder and makes them sink to the bottom, float to the top, or swim/hang at an odd angle. He may recover if it's just his swim bladder and not dropsy, or an infection.

You might try a full water change, and lowering the water level while you are at it. Be sure to change his water regularly.

See bettatalk for treatments, and various betta diseases.

Not all dead fish float but since its still moving its not dead yet anyway. It sounds like it's almost there though. I dont know what to do to help you but I'm sorry.

No he's not dead yet. But it sounds like either he is really sick or is going to die soon. When fishys die they float at the top of the water. Maybe he is not getting enough oxygen maybe you should check yours to see if it is in working order not clooged or anything like that. Good luck Im sorry about your fish.

mine lasted for the last 2 weeks of its life and it ended up down the toilet

the way it sound is that your beta is trying to die, but if you don't mind getting your hands wet? one of my beta's was doing the something and I saved it by getting it off the bottom of the tank and holding it at top of tank, and put a little food in so if it hasn't been eating it can. after it eats help it move around, must get air... just mouth and gills not full body

I'm sorry to hear that. get goldfishes they are cool and low maintenance. just don't mix goldfishes and tropical fishes. i really does sound like ur little guy is gonna die soon. I'd say as sick as it sounds just put him out of his misery. take him out of the tank so he dies, quickly, not slowly and painfully over the course of several days. sorry about ur fish. good luck with future fishes.

It may be about to pass...But it may just have a disease. Try to find out if it has ick or some other disease or that your water is off balance. Ya might have to much chlorine in your water system. There are all kinds of chemicals that you can get to adjust your water.

No but it is probably very sick. Will it eat? Is it a young fish? If no, then it is just old and sick. I'm so sorry. It would be best not to flush it until it dies so that it won't be alive in the toilet. Again, I'm am so sorry about your poor fishy! :-((

Ours did that about 3 days before it died. It turned white when it finally passed.
