I got a tattoo when I was 16 the only problem is I did not go to a reputable place ( hard when you are 16!) I don't regret what I got just that it didn't turn out very well. But tattoos are not forever- you can have them covered , lasered whatever. As for the 'what happens when your 80 and saggy?' people... it won't matter - you are 80 and saggy and be happy you've lived that long! My mother and father in law were highly anti tattoo- until they got their first ones at 50! now at 52 they have more than i do! Just make sure it is something you can live with if not forever for a very long time ( removal hurts more and cover ups just get bigger!) and find someone very good to do it!
Also I too find it addictive, and it doesn't hurt unless it's near a bone- it felt like he was chipping away at my hip - but it still wasn't painful- just strange. I have tattoos on my hip, back of neck , and wrist - would have more but don't have enough money.

Most places you must be 18 to get a tattoo without your parents.
I would recommend against just letting your friends go at your skin with a cutting instrument and some ink. Really think through what you want realizing it costs twice as much or more and is usually much more painful to have one removed. Don't be like one of these people getting chinese symbols that make no sense outside of English (rock and roll may have sounded cool until you learn later from someone that knows the language that the roll character used was for a bread roll). Make sure it has a meaning to you beyond being a current fad.
Consider the location, the best advice I ever got before getting one told to me by an old ex marine that warned me to make sure it was in a place that I could cover up easily if I needed to. Made me reconsider where I got mine and I finally decided way up high on my arm so that a regular tshirt can cover it up.
I've seen many girls in formal occasions wishing they didn't have that goofy butterfly on their ankle while they were all dressed up, same for the tramp stamps on the lower back it cuts out a lot of open back clothing for certain events. Guys getting married later in life probably won't want the tribal designs crawling up their neck out from under their tuxes, or giant 8 balls on their hands in the photos.
As to how it feels, when it first starts it's like a hot bee sting except not quite as sharp of a pain. Then as they get going endorphins kick in and you don't feel too much until they get to certain areas where there isn't much fat/muscle between the skin and the bone underneath.

Tattoos are a very interesting way of telling a story.. however you have to be really smart about how you tell it
You are 16, are you sure you want to have something on your body for the rest of your life? Did something special happen to you that you would like to remember forever? If the answer to those questions is .. I dont know .. or maybe then No you shouldnt get one
a decorative tattoo is a stupid tattoo.. I guarantee you that if you get a little flower or something on your lower back that you think is cute today.. you will regret it in 10 years.. guarantee
if you get something that has a true meaning to you then you should get it..
I have two tattoos, a block M to remember my times at U of M and the Olympic rings to remember Sydney

The main thing to remember when getting a TATOO is that it's basically for life. Yes, you can go and get it removed....But the cost of removing is a lot more then the cost of the TATTOO. So I would say pick something tasteful that in years to come will be fashionable to have. It also depends on where you get it to. If you put it somewhere that is covered most of the time. So when you get older it doesn't cause a employer to think twice if they see it about hiring you. Good luck

I have a tattoo on my right front shoulder of a monarch butterfly, it wasn't bad it kinda felt like someone was scraping off your skin with a needle, my reaction was to move away from who was doing it but it gets better, the best places to get tattoos are on fatter parts of the body the more bony the more irritating it will be my wasn't bad but other places like your wrist hurt. I do think that you should really be sure that you want one and that the one that you get is one that you want to have for life it took me three years to find a perfect pic for mine and i am very happy with it..... just make sure that you really want it so that you never have regrets about it =.>

I have one on my lower back. I can't describe what it feels like in other places, only where I got mine. It hurts when they are doing it, like someone is scratching your skin with something sharp. Then for a little bit after you get the tattoo, you feel nothing. A little bit later, I hurt really bad, like someone had just socked me really hard in the kidney's. I took pain relievers for it, but it didn't go away until the next morning.

i dont think u can get one legally yet but when ever u do get one make sure u do lots of research on it,make sure the parlor u get it at is clean and professional,u dont want to get any sickness and u wanna make sure the artist is good.ask a few people who have them where they got them at.also make sure that whatever u get its what u want, because hellooo it will be with u forever,i suggest ur first tattoo be something not to big and not to reveling,my first tat was a few cute starts on my ankle i have 4 tattoos and that's the simplest one but its my favorite.also make sure u go with a friend for support.good luck

well, since u are 16 you have to ask ur parents permission, because no one will do it until ur 18. I have 3 of them and love 2 of them. The only one I don't like is the 1st one i got. I just wanted one so bad, I didn't do my research and it turned out looking like crap. You do your reasearch and make sure u know its forever.

I have a tatt and I really like it but I did wait till I was 18 out of the respect that I did live with my parents. If you are not wanting to wait I would suggest talking about it with you'r parents or guardian it will show them your grown up and can talk about thngs with them.

Why do you want a tatto? Tatto's are so common now that the only thing that's unique about it is the people that don't have them. I would advise you not to. I would rather buy a purse or a pair of really cute shoes.
