Ok so im 13 and yesterday i finally got the courage to use a tampon, casue we had some family swimming thing and i was on my period. So im very excited. but i have a question about the timing and when to remove a tampon. i know u never it in from 4-8 hours and no more than 8 hours, but does that mean, you cant go to the bathroom til u take it out, or can u pee, even though u have a tampon in or what?

You can pee w/ it in b/c it's in a seperate hole.

Don't leave it in longer than 8 hours or you risk getting an infection (toxic shock syndrome)

If the flow is heavy you will see spotting on your panties, time to change it.

I say just replace it every two to four hours depending on the flow. The reason I say this is it lets you check how bad the flow is...w/o the risk of ruining your undies. You need to put a new one in after pulling the old one out.

Put a new one in at bed time and replace it when you wake up.

I've added some links for you to check out.

They absorb water when swimming, so when you're done swimming, put a new one in.

Good Luck!

Yes you can still urinate with the tampon in place.

Since you are young and this is your first use with tampons, I wouldn't recommend leaving your tampon in for more than 4 hours. (Read the package insert for what the maker's recommendations are as well.)

When you urinate, urine is coming from your urethra - which is a different opening than your vagina where the shedding of the lining of your uterus is taking place. So when you have to pee, you can go ahead and it shouldn't affect your tampon - although I've had some girls tell me that when they are using tampons for the first time, they have an urge to discard their tampon while they pee - an urge that goes away after a while. The other consideration that you should be aware of is that when you pee, there is a good chance the urine will get on the string of your tampon - just be careful when you go to remove the tampon later that you grab the string with some tissue in hand (that will help you discard the tampon as well) - and make sure you ALWAYS wash your hands before and after any insertion or replacement.

Welcome to womanhood and good luck!!!

You can still pee. The tampon doesn't go into the same hole. Just make sure to hold the string so it doesn't get pee on it. Don't leave it in for more than 8 hours or you can get TSS.

You can go to the washroom while wearing a tampon, and not change it if you are going more than every eight hours. You do though have to change the tampon every eight hours. Though, while you are exercising, your flow will be heavier, and when you are in the pool, you may find you fill faster because some girls kick in such a way that helps water up inside them, therefore filling their tampon quicker than normal. So you're fighting against extra water and a heavier flow because you are exercising. In this case you may have to cut your time in half that you change your tampon.

Yes dear you can pee and do all that other stuff your pee hole and your vagina are in two different places so it won't affect the tampon in any way just be sure to hold the string away so you don't get pee on it

well - some people do pee when they have the tampon in, but personally i don't like that bc the string gets pee on it, blah blah blah....... I change it every time i pee. I would rather be safe and change it too often then risk leaving one in all day long. I won't sleep with one either - i use a pad for that.

I just move the string to the side so I don't pee on it. The pee hole is to the front of your vagina, so you pee kinda forward of it. Otherwise, pee as normal. Or change your tampon whenever you pee, then you don't have to worry about leaving it in too long.

You can pee because the tampon isn't inserted in the same area.

Yeah...you can pee. They're two different holes (not to get gross or anything, but its true). Also, don't leave it in for 8 hours-that's not good for you. I would say no longer than6
