I feel it's New York. It has it all. New York has a great lake, many small lakes, mountains, river systems, a cave system, connects to Canada, big city life, country living, corporate head quarters, many first in history, jello, french's mustard, famous wineries, kodak, xerox, ibm, baush and lomb, founded and HQ here in Rochester, minor league to many pro teams in all sports, Olympics, skiing, everything outdoor, everything indoor, harriet tubman, susan b anthony, women's rights, the most hall of fames in sports and other stuff, I could go on forever. NY has every possible type of terrain and activity to go along with it. The summer are mild and the winters are ok. It has been said it has the best over all climate if you put all the four seasons together. Anything you want, you can do it get it or be it , in NY.

From my travels across the country I would vote for Colorado. The ecosystem is so diverse from east to west, north to south. Driving through the Rocky Mountains is a spectacular sight. Vail and Aspen have wonderous ski resorts. Golden and Denver are filled with activity. There are seemingly endless places to mountain bike, hike, rock climb, and take in nature.

Many states are nice but i like virginia. it has the mountains you can go camping in or just look at. Also many historical areas such as monticello, williamsburg, and many civil war battlefields that have been preserved. Also fun places like busch gardens and kings dominion. And you can also visit Norfolk where the atlantic fleet is stationed which is an interesting insight to the modern navy.

I'm a big fan of Colorado. I said years ago, if I ever came into a huge sum money, I'd hang out in Colorado Springs for the rest of my days. Either there or Northern Cali.

Of course, it depends on your taste for scenery. My money is on Wyoming. Gorgeous mountains, beautiful rivers, sparse population. I love it there.
But if you like the desert, Arizona is quite lovely, as is New Mexico.
