The NACDA Director's Cup is an award given annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics to the colleges and universities with the most success in collegiate athletics. Unfortunately, the Buckeyes are only the third Big Ten best team, tenth best team overall. University-Appearances on Director's Cup Top 5 Stanford-12(11first place1second place0third place0fourth place0fifth place) UCLA-11(0first place3second place5third place1fourth place2fifth place) Florida-7(0first place1second place2third place2fourth place2fifth place) Michigan-7(0first place1second place1third place3fourth place2fifth place) North Carolina-6(1first place3second place0third place1fourth place1fifth place) Texas-4(0first place3second place0third place1fourth place0fifth place) Penn State-4(0first place0second place1third place1fourth place2fifth place) Georgia-3(0first place1second place1third place0fourth place1fifth place) Ohio State-2(0first place0second place1third place1fourth place0fifth place) Arizona-2(0first place0second place0third place1fourth place1fifth place) Nebraska-1(0first place0second place0third place1fourth place0fifth place) Duke-1(0first place0second place0third place0fourth place1fifth place) Michigan walloped Ohio State! Pretty amazing when you consider that Michigan is one of two major universities in the state of Michigan (Michigan State being the other one), and the state of Michigan has a smaller population than the state of Ohio. Ohio State, being the only major university in a large state (the 5th largest with 11.5 million) should do better athletically. No other university has such a large recruiting base in their home state where they are the only major university. What is the problem with their athletic program?

North Carolina:

UNC Mens and Womens Basketball ranked in the top 3
Dukes Mens and Womens Basketball ranked in the top 5
NC State Mens and Womens Basketball in top 25

UNC, and NC State Football are no slouches

Charlotte Bobcats just got Michael Jordan as part owner

Carolina Panthers are as dangerous as it gets in the NFC South

i would go with north carolina cause they are a perennial power house in basketball with duke, unc, nc state, wake forest and others, also in football unc has been known to be good and nc state is usually near the top ten in football. Nothing against ohio but ohio state is a large powerhouse in football and lately they have not done bad in basketball but they do not have near the number of teams that represent the state.

You guys have to be kidding me. UF, UM, and FSU are all powerhouses in football. Over the past decade, UM & FSU have more first round picks than ANY other two schools combined. Basketball? UF are the champs. Baseball? UM is in the College World Series right now.

What about California? USC, UCLA, Cal, Stanford, Fresno State, etc.
These schools have won national titles, or come close in any or all of football, basketball and baseball. If you include other sports, then it's not even close. California schools have won far more titles in all combined sports than any other state.

I think if you look at Collegiate National Champs and/or rankings over the past decade or so, probably Florida and Texas.
