There are products called systemic rose food. It feeds the rose while propelling unwanted guests. It is very easy to use, slightly work it in the soil and water. Depending on the brand you usually repeat every 2 weeks or so. I have had great luck with it, it is safer than a spray because it will not hurt your beneficial insects. You can get it at any home and garden store.
Fertilome, and greenlite are good brands but there are many.
I also use it on many of my flowering shrubs....works great!
God Bless

Setup a Beetle trap in the opposite corner of your yard. Japanese Beetle Traps are avail at most hardware & garden centers.

Then spray the roses with a spray to avoid reinfestation. Check the labels on the containers to make sure it includes Japanese beetles.

Good Luck

Nothing has worked for my parents and every thing they have is being destroyed. They live in Birmingham, AL. The best advise I can give is to sprinkle Sevin dust all over the yard when they are laying their eggs like in the late summer and also in the fall. They hide deep in the ground and then come out after the cold weather. The governemnt has an ineteresing website about controlling these pest: http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/housing/japanese-beetle/jbeetle.html

Many insecticides are labeled for Japanese beetle control on landscape plants. Examples include acephate (Orthene Turf, Tree & Ornamental Insecticide), carbaryl (Sevin and many other brand names), cyfluthrin (Bayer Advanced Garden Multi-Insect Killer Concentrate), lambda-cyhalothrin (Spectracide® Triazicide® Soil & Turf Insect Killer Concentrate), esfenvalerate (Ortho Bug-B-Gon Garden & Landscape Insect Killer Concentrate), and permethrin (Spectracide® Bug Stop Multi-Purpose Insect Control Concentrate and many other brands). Neem extracts (Bon-Neem) deter Japanese beetle feeding but may not be adequate against high populations.

Call Yoko Ono. She managed to break up the other Beatles.

Seriously, Try Diatacious Earth.....Safer's product. Sounds like you have an infestation! Harmless to pets and wildlife. Dust your roses with it. Like I said, its harmless to people and animals alike. Its main ingredient is crushed shells....the insects are attracted to it and feed upon it. Thus cutting their digestive system. It works but more than one application may be necessary. Still less expensive than calling an exterminator and much safer for the environment. Good luck!

There are traps for them. The traps release a scent, and they get caught in a bag. No sprays or poisons on your flowers.

They sell them at garden supply stores.

I just crush them wearing gloves. It takes a long time, and I have to do it daily...but it's therapeutic.
