First of all, recognize you are not God.
Then, you can begin to think there is a higher power that create all things. You didn't create your self, did you?
Did you mother? Ask her about the technique she used to create your eyes,or your mouth..he he
read a little bit of science. You can begin with Einstein's relativity theory and then you can follow with quantum physics. If this is too bored to you, you can easily watch at the magic that exists in all the living beings in Animal Planet Chanel, for example. That perfection is not "just because".
Then try to imagine there is a superior power, just as you can conceive it. Don't put him names, or an image. It is not the god your parents or teacher told you about. It is just that thing that is superior than you , as you can manage it. Then you can begin to believe that this thing has something to do with your life. That is a good start for spirituality. Good luck.

Not all who call themselves atheists are. Real atheists do not contemplate God. In other words, even if God were to show up today, a real atheist would not be moved because there is no such thing.
Those who ask for proof for the existence of God and still claim to be atheists are, to say the least, confused and really don't know what their position is in this debate. The big question for atheists is; what is a pathognomonic proof of God? Why ask for proof of something you've already declared nonexistent? that is the dilemma of the atheist. The biblical allegory of Lazarus and The rich man is demonstrative of this point where, to cut to the chase, both die, Lazarus made heaven and the rich man went to hell. In trying to prevent his five brothers from suffereing the same fate, he asks Abraham to send lazarus back to warn them off what awaits them if they don't change their ways. Abraham is purpoted to have denied the request saying "They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them." The rich man is said to have insisted "but father if someone goes there from the dead, they are more likely to believe" to which Abraham responded "if they don't listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead"
Having said that, and without meaning to be an apologetic for religionists, I would say the atheist, worth his salt, is good for the seeker of transcendental reality. The good atheist asks critical questions that shake the comfort level of the believer and move the true seeker away from the dross of complacency. The questions have the capacity to make the true seeker/believer question his or her belief system, discard or strenghten them. This has been my personal experience. My spiritual insight today has been greatly enabled by interactions with atheists who asked the critical questions that propelled me to deeper search. I think you can make the argument that the atheist, without intending to, is doing God's work..ha! by fine-tunning the search of those who are inclined to seek the face of God. Contrary to what most people would think, a situation where people are asked the tough questions, is propitious to spiritual development. So, I would say thank God for the atheist!
As a footnote to all of the above, the problem I have seen with the theist/ atheist argument is that once the debate starts, there is an almost automatic prima facie assumption of the Judeo-Christian definition of God. There is more to the God concept than what christianity or Judaism say. Infact some so called atheists "convert" to theism when the God concept is amplified beyond the doctrines of the Abrahamic religions.

Yes, There is no god. For thousands of years before christianity, there were middle eastern gods, chinese gods, indian gods, norse gods, celtic gods, native american gods, central american gods, and they prevailed for much longer than Christ has. In a few thousand years from now, the majority may be worshipping a new god or gods. To be spiritual is to know that the golden rule is a good rule. Hurting others is bad, being good to others is good and makes you an integral part of the human race. Every breath is life and should be valued and treasured. You can certainly be an atheist and still be spiritual.

An atheist is someone who has sized up the ostensibly religious world and found it seriously wanting, which, in fact, it is. He then delves into universal truth whence all these religions base themselves on up until the point of deviation they all have when the really tough questions arise. Like being brutally honest with yourself.
Next, is the self declamation of " I am a seeker of truth. "
Finally, the facts; all world religion, is actually anathema to the truth. Our friend the atheist may have started out on a serious path, but quickly falls into cynicism, and finally, self delusion.
No one seeks the truth. Its why we try to bury ourselves in creature comforts, pleasure, or the like. There is in fact a God, and only one truth, which is rejected by the world at large. It doesn't make it any less the truth.

Humanism extolls the efforts of humanity in general and believes that only humans can really change the world. Asimov was a devout humanist and helped in this effort. Or, you can extoll the might of the individual, like Ayn Rand, and the objectivist movement. This is the opposite of humanism, and says that you live for no other but your self, and is simular to libertarianism. Both groups are considered "athiest" and yet strive for a cause like religion does.

If you're an athiest, which most are truly not, you don't beleive that you have a "soul", therefore, you can't have a "spirit" and be spiritual. If you feel you are "spiritual", than you're truly not an athiest. Why don't you become an agnostic instead? Agnostics question the exsistance of "God". Athiests, just don't beleive at all.
