I am going to school for my MBA right now and that is actually a topic of discussion we had last semester in one of my classes. That is a trend that I believe will continue. Chat rooms and blogs have become mainstream. Consumers are tired of pop up advertising therefore, the only other way to make money off of the service is to charge for it. I personnaly, would not pay for it, but I am not much of a chat room type of person.

I doubt it's so much a trend--MSN started doing that a few years ago and I haven't seen Yahoo or anyone else doing it. I was faced with the choice of paying or not having access and I have pretty much left MSN in the dust where chat is concerned. I have never needed to chat bad enough to spend money on it.

First of all, MSN charging to use chat rooms is news to me. But it's always good to know; I'll have to check that out further. I've never been a fan of any MSN rooms anyway.

And no, I have seen places charge--for those who just want to chat--although, Yahoo, is not half as good as it was back in the late 90's--a lot of SPAM and Bots going in the rooms. Not making for very pleasant chat.

But, if you need to know of some places, you can find them. I know of some free places, but most of them are for Roleplay or for people 18 and Over.

Anyway, I don't believe that you should have to pay "just to chat". If you want to own your own room with full control and all of the bells and whistles--that includes free webspace, forums, email addresses and other incentives, for either Regular or Roleplay chat--that's a different story.

I met my husband in an MSN chatroom when it was free. Since they started charging, I haven't it used it at all. It was all for fun, not worth the money.
