The government is run by the people, these days into the ground by liberals. Years ago the people trusted the government to run the country by the laws that were written. Now we look for a problem with whoever is President while letting Congress run amok. Laws are made by Congress not by the sitting President.

the government is the embodiment of the people. If we got off our butts and voted at more than about 50%, the people could change who is in government, because these people that are elected do not wield their own power, they wield ours. If you think about the powers of government being a handful of sticks, the people hold all of those sticks. But because the people realize that they can't possibly get together to en masse to run a government, they have decided to elect people to hold their stick for them. But its even better than that. We have split up the sticks and given some to the federal government through enumerated powers ( a list of powers in the constitution that the national government has) and handed over what was left to the state governments.
So the answer to your question is that there is no answer. The government and the people are one in the same, and it would be more obvious if our citizens took more of an interest in voting and thus shaped government to better reflect the whole, rather than to reflect the loud, which tend to be the minority.

The American people are run by the economy. The government does not have the authority to run the people-its called freedom. People vote their pocketbooks (those that do vote) but the majority of Americans are concerned with making payments, plain and simple.

The govenment runs us. And it is our own fault. We should have it where the media would run free advertisemnt for candidates running for office so they do not have to be rich or attract more rich for campaign fundiung. If it were free, we would have the honest middle class Americans being able to get voted into office and work for us, not money.
