I can't believe how many pictures of female fans in bikini tops I have seen posted on various websites! Are they all trying to get themselves into Fox's "Babes of the World Cup" section? What happened to modesty?

It has nothing to do w/the weather, or the openness of Europeans. It has to do w/the fact that too many women are completely superficial and believe that looks count for everything in this day and age. I coached girl's soccer for 11 years and I've played the sport for more than 26yrs, and I know what real female soccer players and fans look and act like. The "hootchie mamas" that we see on TV aren't real fans at all. They know next to nothing about "The Beautiful Game", couldn't name more than 3-4 players on any given team, don't know the history of the game, countries, or the tournament, and don't really understand the tactics and mentality behind the game. They're only concerned w/showing off their bodies, competing w/the other women, and getting a little TV coverage so that they can impress their friends. Sports should be left to the REAL sports fans and players, who really deserve to be at the matches.....hootchies and whores should be left at home....in bed where they belong.

Because the world is not America where there are a million Pat Robertson types running around. If you go to Brazil you will be shocked beyond belief how open the women are over there, for example.
Also, because it's freaking hot in Germany in the summer. They are trying to stay cool without paying $10 for a bottle of water.

I don't think it has anything to do with culture or marketing or the heat. Just as you can expect at an American football game to see heavy-set men with their chests bared and painted along with their faces, this is part of World Cup regalia. Fanatical fans tend to dress a certain way. You will see men with crazy outfits--painted and colourful--and you will see women with tight-fitting, midriff-showing team jersey. It's just "what you wear to something like that."

They are not living in Iran or Saudi Arabia. They are from the civilized world. In view of the heat in Germany, were you expecting them to be clad completely in suits and winter jackets to pass the test of modesty?

Blame it on Brazil! I think some of the fans from other nations are probably wearing what they would wear on most days - purely cultural. If you are tired of seeing them-blame the cameramen who do nothing but scope the crowds looking for big-chested women.

They're in Germany. In Germany, its not taboo to be scantily clad. In fact, if you go to a river, lake, pool, etc, you'll find many women are topless.
