I go out there 2-3 times yearly and it always changes. Whatever casino I did well in last trip will normally stink this trip. You just need to move around. If a machine isn't keeping you even after 3 or 4 fills, move on.

There are only a handful of slot machines that take any kind of coins at all, if it is quarters or dollar or $5 tokens. The cost to the casino of handling that huge weight is so expensive that they have almost completely switched to paper slips. They keep a few downtown for the hard cord traditionalists that would stop playing entirely if it wasn't for the coins. ------------- Although it is possible to put a dollar in the machine and play a penny at a time, virtually no one does it. Part of the addiction of these machines is the graphics and the sounds. The machine doesn't make any sound if you only play one penny. Research has shown that the typical play on the machine is 20 different bets of 3 cents each. -------------- With a quarter machine the minimum return that you get back is your quarter back. Although programming of quarter machines varies widely it used to be you would get your quarter back 12.5% of the time, and then less than 1% of the time you would get a bigger win. You might win 80 quarters 1 time in 218 which would get you excited, but not so much that you quit playing. The bigger wins are actually very rare. -------------- With penny machines you can win less than the original 60 cents you bet. Wins of 15 , 30, 45 cents are common. So you end up "winning" as often as 75% of the time. But you are mostly "winning" less than you bet. It creates a kind of addiction. One of the most successful penny machine manufacturers (WMS) used to make video games. They are adding sound systems built into the headrest and vibrating chairs to enhance the effect. ============ Bottom line is that casinos retain almost double the amount of money spent on penny machines than on quarter and dollar machines. On the Las Vegas strip now slot machines are responsible for 52% of the gaming revenue, and penny machines are responsible for 22.2% of the slot machine revenue. Five years ago penny machines were only responsible for 2.84% of the slot revenue on the strip. ============ WMS has the hottest penny games right now including Monopoly , Reel 'em in, Wizard of Odds, and Star Trek. ------------------ Most locals play video poker where the house edge is much lower. Although there are almost one hundred variations of video poker, the game with the lowest house edge is called 9/6 Jack's or better. This game is called that because it pays 6 to one for a flush, and 9 to one for a full house. There are very few games like this left, and probably none on the strip. You can find about half a dozen of these machines clearly marked in the "Four Queens" casino on Fremont Street if you go there for the light show at night. If you don't see the signs ask an employee.

The local casino's. Try the Station casinos all over town, not the strip. And you need to pick a machine that is in a highly visable area, with lots of foot traffic going by. Casino's like to have lots of people see you when you win.

Play the slots that are closest to the entrance. Those machines are made to hit more. The more people that see you winning, the more will play at that casino. See how that works?

Hey that's why it's called 'a gamble' nobody can tell you especially on a free site like this! And besides what maybe 'hot' to one won't be to another. Depending on your appearance, age, breast size etc. etc. Slot machines ain't known to pay a lot. Oh sure you see the $100,000 winner on TV but think how many $1 bills had to feed that; plus the casino's profit. Oh wait 150,000!
