My son is a chemical engineer. Starting salaries right now average $55K right out of college with no experience. With internships and co-op experience, that range goes up. Chemical engineers are in demand, so you're bound to find work.

The only catch is WHERE the chemical manufacturing companies are located. They tend to not be located in the hip cities that census statistics show are preferred by today's graduates. However, if you like math and science, the work is usually satisfying.

Excellent career. Im a Chemical Engineer graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez in 1992. Currently working as QA Operations Manager for Johnson & Johnson.
