I have a 4th generation 20gb ipod. Recently it has taken to freezing. It will play a song for about 10 seconds then freeze and skip to another song. I also get the sad ipod icon and the folder icon. I went to Ipod support and it said to refresh the ipod to factory settings. The only way I can do this is by connecting the ipod to a computer and using Ipod Updater. I have tried doing this but neither of my computers recognize the ipod, even in disk mode. Is this some thing that can be fixed and if so how?

two of my friends had the same problem. it kept on doing it for a long time and then it stopped. they would get so frustrated and then one day it started functioning normally again. if the people at the ipod store said that nothing was wrong with it, it will probably fix itself like it did for my two friends. if not, i would go back to the 'genius bar' or whatever and basically demand a new one. quite a number of my friends have done this, and if you bug then enough they will probably give in. when my ipod freezes, i hold the middle button and the menu button at the same time and it unfreezes.... i think your best bet is going back to the apple store and trying to get them to replace it. good luck!

There is something wrong with your ipod. Take it to the Apple store and have them look at it. They would tell you what you need to do. Hopefully they can either give you a new one or something for free.

good luck

Go to http://www.ilounge.com- they have an extensive forum and base of support for anything that can happen to an iPod.

Have you reset the iPod using the iPod's buttons? http://www.apple.com has several tutorials you can try to see if they help.

Your hard drive is probably getting 'iffy'. If it is no longer under warranty, you can try places like http://www.techrestore.com to repair it for a fair price.
