No that is not true. The japanese had gone to great lengths to prove to america that they would fight to the last man on every island they occupied. In hopes that we would feel the cost to high and end the war and let them keep the countries that they occupied. We had announced to our allies at Potsdam that we had a horrific new weapon that we would use against Japan, Stalin and Churchill said to use it. We were negotiating through Swedish diplomats for peace and Japan kept attaching conditions. We had insisted that since they bombed Pearl Harbor in a sneak attack that they surrendor unconditionally. We dropped the first bomb and then asked for their surrender which they did not do. They were told another would be dropped and we did. After that they surrendered. Truman used the bombed to save 100, 000's of american lives. The atomic bomb was so horrible it was hard to imagine what kind of weapon it was. If the japanese had known maybe they would have surrendered unconditionally but again maybe not. There was also plans to use the bomb in Germany but they surrendered before we had one ready. Hitler was trying to produce large V-2 Rockets that could have carried bombs to america but they did not have the atomic bomb.

The Fat Man mushroom cloud resulting from the nuclear explosion over Nagasaki rises 18 km (60,000 ft) into the air from the hypocenter.
The mushroom cloud over Hiroshima after the dropping of Little Boy.On the morning of August 6, 1945 the United States Army Air Forces dropped the nuclear weapons "Little Boy" on the city of Hiroshima, followed three days later by the detonation of the "Fat Man" bomb over Nagasaki, Japan.

In estimating the death toll from the attacks, there are several factors that make it difficult to arrive at reliable figures: inadequacies in the records given the confusion of the times, the many victims who died months or years after the bombing as a result of radiation exposure, and not least, the pressure to either exaggerate or minimize the numbers, depending upon political agenda. That said, it is estimated that by December 1945, as many as 140,000 had died in Hiroshima by the bomb and its associated effects In Nagasaki, roughly 74,000 people died of the bomb and its aftereffects In both cities, most of the casualties were civilians.

The role of the bombings in Japan's surrender, as well as the effects and justification of them, have been subject to much debate. In the U.S., the prevailing view is that the bombings ended the war months sooner than would otherwise have been the case, saving many lives that would have been lost on both sides if the planned invasion of Japan had taken place In Japan, the general public tends to think that the bombings were needless as the preparation for the surrender was in progress in Tokyo
There was never any thought or intention from the Japanese that they were contemplating a surrender.

Actually, it couldnt be further from the truth. Uncle Sam called Japan and said "Listen a$$holes, knock of the bullsh**, or we're going to make it a bad August for Japan." Japan replied with "Go f**k yourselves.".......A couple of days later, shall we say, KA-BOOM!
