I also remember a lot of people mistaking this song as being done by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS: In response to the next person's answer, the lead singer did come back, but it only says he left, not that he was fired.

Yes and the interesting thing about the song is the singer was fired before the song actually came out. When it hit big, they wanted him back. He said, "Hell no!"
