Interesting fact: 1 in 10 Americans abstain from sex, but only 1 in 50 abstain from TV...anyway, I went about a year and a half without TV, because I couldn't stand the depressing, biased 'news', vapid shows, celebrity worship, omnipresent commercials and unoriginal sitcoms. How about you?

Going on 7 months. Still rent movies though. I feel 100% better.
The funny thing is, you can tell which news a person watches, what shows a person loves, just by the way they interact. Not much free thinking going on anymore. I am about 10 years older than my work-mates, and we have trouble communicating sometimes. I think it's because I don't speak fluid South Park! "My lips hurt real bad" was funny the first time.

I quit watching TV in 1996 (including DVDs or Tapes). Haven't had a TV in 10 years and I can tell you that, since then, I got a lot of free time for other activities.

Now, in the other hand, I think I'd have a very hard time trying to quit listening to music though.

About one month was the longest--and it was beyond our control. Almost drove me crazy--especially since I had young children at that time--and they were infuriated that they couldn't see their shows.

Now, I watch very little of the biased news--watch mostly movies and old movies, "Law and Order", and a few others. The kids are grown, but still watch shows like South Park, The Simpsons, and Family Guy--along with the music channels.

My TV died a few years ago and I didn't want to spend the money on a new one. I didn't watch TV except if I was at someone's house visiting for about 2 years. Didn't really miss anything and it felt werid being around someone who was "into" a show so much that they couldn't miss it.

I under no circumstances did determine what replace into incorrect with it, even yet it replace into fantastically lots ineffective on arrival. My time table replace into lot busier than wide-spread around that factor, and that i did no longer difficulty to purchase a clean one for extra or less 4 months. i did no longer truly miss it... untill i began out gazing it back. i won't be able to stay with out an occasional each and every day instruct fix!

I have gone 5 months without a television and didn't miss a thing. On a daily basis, I don't turn the tv on for myself at all and if I do, it is only to watch the local weather...
