I would teach the child that there's nothing wrong, bad or abnormal about gay people.
Reading and those things will be taught at school, but things like these come from good raising, and it avoids raising children who are judgmental and ignorant.

Never, ever write anything that you may regret later. And my mums favourite, always sleep on a problem, the solution is much clearer in the morning. Both have held me in good stead for most of my life

I would teach a child to respect. If she respects others, she will learn to respect herself. If she respects herself, she will gain confidence. When a child has confidence, determination and perseverance follow. And a child who is confident, determined and persistent is one who is a true gift to the world.

To listen.

That way, as kids, they will be obedient and good learners. Growing up, they can be open to opinions from all sorts of people and learn to formulate opinions for themselves. As adults, they can be good communicators, compassionate, and open-minded. As seniors... they can actually listen and stop saying "WHAT?" all the damn time.
