Is the close-caption setting on your TV on?

if you have the same problem with the DVDs you own, then press the subtitles button on your DVD remote. if its only with rentals then it could be the same as above if you only have really old DVDs, or theres nothing you can do about it except rent your DVDs somewhere else. a lot of times rental places will buy versions of the DVD that automaticly have subtitles on them because of a recent suit, but it might just be your DVD player.

It's the hardware not the software. Either you TV is set to close captioning or your DVD player has settings on it as well. My DVD player does that occasionally, but if I play with the captioning it goes away.

You must have turned the setting for Closed Caption turned on from your TV. Search through your TV's menu options to turn it off.

Also, it could be your on DVD settings. Search through your DVD menu options without a DVD in it.

Get your DVD manual and go through it VERY SLOWLY ( some are so wordy, you could skip over a main point), that should clear things up with the sub titles.

It could possibly be your TV settings and not your DVD settings.

Do they send you ONLY subtitles? So why turn them off: you'll watch an empty screen...
