That varies with the insurer. Different companies have different policies. Most of the better ones try to do so within 48 hours.

That varies tremendously. My wife got rear-ended and it was nearly 2 weeks before the other guy's insurance company's adjuster went to look, 3 weeks before repairs got started, and about 6 weeks to get the car back. There are responsive insurance companies and unresponsive ones.
