Of course we don't have as much freedom as we did 30 yrs ago. There are cameras everywhere, we can't smoke, our children have to have social security numbers, paranoia runs rampant as any stranger is a potential child molestor or terrorist, we have restrictions on what can be brought into schools, federal buildings, etc, we have metal detectors, there are more rules and restrictions and fees in every aspect of our life, we have Homeland Security, and now our civil liberties are being taken away. In essence we have traded our freedoms to become safer but are we any safer than before? No. Our borders are not sealed, we can't eradicate terorism, or prevent crime, we can't legislate consciousness. I am amazed when people say 1984 passed and nothing happened. Perhaps we are not able to see what has happened to us objectively.

Yeah, pretty much. In some ways, more practical freedom (cell phones, internet). Conservatives still want to take some of it away by getting the government more involved in reproduction, religion, marriage. But so far, things are about the same, except it takes a little longer to move through airports, which is understandable.

No. Total freedom equals chaos. Laws are written to reduce chaos.

The more laws written to reduce chaos, the less freedom exists.

There are more laws on the books now than 30 years ago, so therefore, less freedom.

~~~~~
Liberals want to reduce freedom by getting the government involved in health care, housing, food choices, firearm ownership, private property rights, censorship, etc.
I don't believe so especially with the introduction of homeland security. Also, in this age of terrorism, any use of expressing ideas can be deemed as harmful to society based on some people's views. Today, our freedoms of religion is also in danger, as we see that violence has picked up between religions. We are limited in our freedom of religion and freedom of speech.
Well. We have many more laws than thirty years ago. I would probably say kinda and kinda not.
Some people think they are free to do anything. But we're getting less free- someone is working on a law that says you must wear sun screen. We all know that it probably won't pass!
We're all as free as we used to be.
No. The problem is that 30 years ago, people fought for their freedom, and in some ways won. We haven't had to yet, and don't understand that freedom must be taken, not given.
No, and the same people who always fought big brother are now asking him to take over our lives. At the rate we are going we will be told how to go to the bathroom and given time slots to do so.
It would depend on whose freedoms you are speaking to.
Conservatives freedoms have been limited severely...and continue...
Liberals freedoms have been flaunted at the expense of the freedoms of Conservatives.
