redneck is killing a deer with a gun and stocking the freezer.
white trash is stopping to help someone who just hit a deer, then taking it home and stocking the freezer.

A redneck is someone from the country, maybe not tooo bright, but a good person. W.T. are poor, stupid, and lazy, and see nothing wrong with it. The only real difference is the attitude. A redneck may live in a trailer, drive a pickup truck, and drink beer until they pass out, but W.T. who does the same, also thinks they are living the high life, and don't give a crap about the trailer falling apart, the many junked vehicles in the yard, and have been sporting a mullet since 1972.

I always thought of Rednecks as folks who came from the mountains--had very little education, and very little money.
White Trash can live anywhere, and just be gross, "Jerry Springer Show" type people. People who just want to drink, fight, and do nothing to help this world (or even themselves).
You forgot to mention Trailer Trash. (Now, granted there are people who own beautiful, expensive mobile homes--we're not talking about them). We are speaking of any people who live in a trailer park, and do the things that the White Trash people do--only there are more of them.
You don't have to be poor to be White Trash--remember when Roseanne Barr was married to Tom Arnold--they called themselves "White Trash with money." (Which carried over to the show as a joke when the Connors won the lottery). :D

"Redneck" is a the term for hard working blue-collar workers who get sweaty, grimy and dirty and get a "red neck" from slaving away in the hot sun on a long day. Hard-working, honest, but usually not very well educated. This is the type of person that you want for a friend.
"White Trash" works at menial jobs, but only when they have avidly avoiding hard work, instead spending a few hours a week visiting the Welfare office to file papers for the food stamps (which they try to con the cashier at the 7-11 into using to purchase beer, wine and cigarrettes), Section 8 and/or a stipend, visiting the township trustee and going to the Salvation Army with vouchers for all their clothing and home furnishing/decorating needs (which explains the overuse of velvet Elvis's in their abodes). If they get lucky and the cashier at the 7-11 is new and lets them use the food stamps to buy a case of beer or gallon of wine, they promptly drink it, get in a fight with their live-in, get the cops called on them and arrested, then get a public defender to get them out of the charges. These are the types that every family usually has at least one of.

Redneck refers to someone who is laid back and somewhat of a country folk and always blue collar....very hard working (rednecks can be a lot of fun to hang out with)
White Trash refers to just being skanky and pretty much a complete loser. Spends days doing nothing constructive. Works only when necessary (not someone I would be caught dead hanging out with)
In a nutshell....being a redneck just means a country way of life...and white trash is just a nasty person with no goals in life.

Rednecks are care free people, who do what is right, but have fun doing it.
White Trash, lays around collects welfare, and takes everything for granted. They hate to work, living off other people suits them just fine.

They're wrong. "White trash" was a reference to non-slaveholding white folks in the antebellum South who were working hard and just scraping by. As about a third of my ancestors fit that description, I consider it a badge of honor. I'm glad the New Deal era allowed my parents to attend college and take the family out of that lifestyle. "Rednecks" used to mean racist, beer-swilling, tobacco-drooling whites with no class. Jeff Foxworthy has expanded the term to make it humorous.

a redneck is just someone who is from the country, white trash can be from anywhere, its just a person who doesnt clean themselves up and take pride in anything, they could careless what they look like or how they act in public
