Also i think Bruce Arena should have used his last sub and put in Eddie Johnson in for Landon.

Definitely too many reds and yellows. De Rossi's was deserved, Mastroeni I think could have been yellow, and Pope's was a debatable 2nd yellow = red.

But I think the referee is at fault because he never stopped blowing the whistle from kick-off. This is frustrating when you are playing and when you watching and only aggrevates any onfield frustration experienced by the players.

As a side note maybe the ref thought he had to make this football match more like the incessant stop/start of american football by slowing the game down, ruining its flow thus making it more enjoyable and easier to follow for the american audience.

Mastroeni should never have received a red for that tackle. If that was deserving of a red, then most teams would have lost half of their players by now. De Rossi had to go. He should be and likely will be suspended for that elbow. Pope was annoying, but it was two yellows, so it's harder to complain about.

In general I think the officiating has been terrible this entire World Cup. On ESPN2, they said that FIFA has been satisfied. Shame on FIFA then. The number of cards has slowed the game down and has rewarded the "divers" and "floppers" for slowing the game down.

What FIFA needs to be going after is the "whining". I cannot stand the players that lay on the ground, moaning and making faces like their leg has been amputated and then get right back up when their team has an advantage. That's poor sportsmanship and should be carded every time it occurs.

way too many cards were given. Mastreoni should not have been red carded or Pope. At most, a yellow card should have been given. Now, two players are out next game. What luck. And, yes, Landon should have been subed with Eddie Johnson.

The Italian's elbow and the second yellow = red was legit from a referee's point of view (I am referee) but the late tackle was a yellow at best.

Two out of three deserved to be sent off. Pope and De Rossi got their just deserts. The second player, Mastroeni deserved to be booked. I felt once the Italian had been sent off, the referee was trying to equal it up.
