This is a great question!

In winter your hat is providing insulation, and trapping the heat from your head, which is warmer than the outside air.

In summer, the hat COULD provide insulation from the heat, but only if it is hotter outside than your head.

However, our body sweats, and when the sweat evaporates, our skin becomes cooler. The type of hat we wear in winter would prevent this sweat from evaporating and interfere with our natural cooling.

This is why a straw or mesh hat is good in the summer. A summer hat can also provide shade, and if it is a lighter color than your hair, it will reflect more light and help you be cooler due to reflection also.

So, you will want to where a hat both summer and winter to be comfortable!

Make sure it has a wide brim to provide more shade, and also protect you from sunburn!

Actually a hat in the summer can provide shade to your head and neck to help prevent heat exhaustion. It should have a brim to catch breezes and be porous enough to breathe

Yes you will .. however .. hats do help a lot by keeping direct sun off of your head. If it is cloudy and hot you are better without the hat, however if you are going to be in the bright sun a lot a hat is a good idea.

Well, that depends. You will lose heat, but the sunlight will heat your head and body. Wear a big hat to stay cool in the shade of it.

Head is most likely to catch cold & transfer fast to the body, hence the covering, which protects your ears, nose,

Now that you asked "to prevent heat loss" make me suggest you cover your head all throughout the year,to maybe avoid any of
the "brain loss" too.

Yes, and placing a cool wet rag on your forehead and back of the neck also keeps you cool too. The blood flow through your head/brain goes through rapidly, that is why you need to be aware of keeping your head in good shape and right temperature. Its not a myth, its true!
