I would call his doctor, they may want to see him. Is he breastfed or formula fed? I started giving my daughter prune juice around four months because she would go days without pooping. But be sure and call his doctor to make sure it isn't something more serious.

My son had a problem with bowel movements and I just gave him an ounce of grape or apple juice in his bottle and mixed it with 3 ounces of water. Prune juice is a little strong for his tummy at only 4 months old.
If he is eating solids yet, prunes or carrots always helped with my son

You can give him baby prune juice, but don't mix it with his formula, chances are he won't like it. He's old enough to give him juice, just give him a couple of ounces, maybe 2 in a bottle, a tablespoon won't do anything...give him 2 ounces. Trust me I have two kids, been there done that. Good luck...hope baby does better.

Just water the prune juice down a bit. No need to put in the formula. It will taste funny to him & the thinner liquid may go down quicker, so just watch him & burp him good. No harm at all in giving a baby of this age juice.

A 4 1/2 month old can have juice. (4 oz. a day, apple and white grape are the best to start with, mix 2 oz. with 2 oz. water.) Or if you aren't ready to start juice, try a teaspoon or 2 of Karo syrup in his bottle. Works like a charm!

I did - approved by my daughter doctor - Gerber makes Apple prune juice.... I would place about 1 ounce in her bottle with her formula and let her drink it.... but only once a day until her constipation was gone - it worked wonders...
only problem was she has now built a tolerance, she eats grapes, raisins and prunes all day long with no effect, lol....

Be careful with prune juice. is he drink any other juices? very little should not hurt him. i would try water first. it wont hurt him to have a couple of ounces in between feedings. remember, the more water we drink the easier it is to have a bm. if he is still straining after the water and small amount of juice, take him to the pediatrician.

Karo is corn syrup, a natural remedy for constipation.
Give him a table spoon with the bottle.
That is what I give to my son since he was a baby.
You also can give him the baby prune juice without mixing with the formula.
Also, massage him, move his legs (bycicle movement) to help him.

I would say no on the juice, unless he is already getting juice. The dark corn syrup is reccomended (organic of course), very small amount with water should do the trick. Also massaging the bottom of his feet. Strange but true. Rubbing the soles of the feet seems to stimulate.

My sons' pediatrician recommends mixing 2 tablespoons dark Karo (corn) syrup with 2 ounces water and giving it to them in a bottle. Does the trick in a few hours' time. :)
