Depending on the chicken some kinds of chickens lay eggs as early as 6 months but in many kinds of chickens it takes a full year! What kind of chicken do you have?

Hens begin laying at 18 – 20 weeks of age and a healthy chicken will lay about one egg a day. It takes 26 hours for a hen to produce an egg.

about 5-6 months you should start getting the first eggs. at first they might be a bit small...often times once they get producing the eggs will be a bit larger and more regular.
Be sure and use a good layer feed and that they have access to oyster shell. This isn't to grind food so much as it is for the calcium content needed for egg production. *Grit* (small pebbles) grinds the feed.

Most lay about 5-6 months.
We have Barred Rock and Red Sex Links and they both started about 5 months or so.

About a year; depends on how well and what you are feeding. As they become adults and you want them to lay TRANSISITION a laying mash as well as supplying ground oyster shells and plenty of fresh clean water.
