Because Romance with out sex is perverce. It glorifies sex more than if you put it in the movie. Funny ting about movies is there are no rapes in porn movies but plenty in regular movies. Now in the late 70's and early 80's sex was hot in movies. The line between porn and main stream movies blurred. So much that in the late eighties and early nineties violence took over. But the first sentence explains why it is there. The story includes romance and that glorifies sex in a way that it just isn't realistic any more. And yes, sex sells.
PS. Have you watched European films lately. Same thing.

Sex is something of interest to most people. Kind of like violence is fascinating to people. Watching it is a way to see it & be safe not doing it.
