Anytime an African american hears a black person speak with an african accent, they just become cold and stern why?

Because black africans tend to be very successful in the US. It's a slap in the face to all the self-victimized, welfare cultured african-americans who blame all their ills on white racism. If black africans can come to this country, often with little or nothing, and succeed in a relatively short timeframe, it proves that the racism that the african american leaders, such as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, claim to be pervasive, doesn't exist at all.

Bottom line: It proves to the african american population that they are largely lazy, ignorant failures...and it's all self-inflicted.

First and foremost, most African Americans have no problems with Africans. We are two different types of people and are sadly misunderstood by the other, however, from experience, some Africans have problems with African Americans because they feel that we don't deserve the title of "African American". They feel like we have fallen into the stereotype of "America" and walked in the "white mans" footpath by attempting to look and talk like the Caucasian men and women and not our African heritage.

But in my personal opinion I don't really become cold and stern when I hear their accents. However, it reminds me of what some Africans think of me. So I'd rather not put myself in a situation to be stereotyped like that. A few Africans that i have encountered aren't like that at all. Some on the other hand are really rude just like any other ignorant human.

Also maybe its just the handful of African Americans that you have been exposed to. Don't judge a whole race on few uneducated people.
;-)

Have a nice day!

That's the first time I've ever heard of that and I'm African American. I don't hate Africans. I have no reason to and I think their accents are beautiful. I know that there are some African tribes that perform rituals that I don't agree with such as female circumcision and there is some treatment of women which I don't agree with, somewhat similar to how women are treated in Middle Eastern cultures. So perhaps the African Americans you have run into who feel this way have a biased view of all Africans based upon some of the tribal customs. But there are many Africans who have come from poverty and other horrible circumstances and have found success in this country and I am proud of them for that.

To the person above, Darlene, I was with you until that last statement...that was pretty hateful. There are many educated, well-spoken black Americans or African Americans (whatever moniker we choose to call ourselves) ---perhaps if you widen your own social circle, you would meet some of them. To the other person above, if you think racism doesn't exist, you are kidding yourself. Even now, you are spouting a racist stereotype. Laziness is a characteristic that can be found in ANY race. People who are lazy will find reasons, any reasons to keep them from changing their lives. It doesn't matter what their race is. I have heard lazy black people blame whites, I have heard lazy white people blame immigrants, I have heard lazy women blame their husbands and lazy men blame their wives. Stop stereotyping people. We all have issues. I know many hard-working successful African Americans...I am one of them.

I would like to know y we call them african americans. Most of them have never seen Africa. And over 80% don't even know the name of the currency that Africa uses. Some can't even be traced back to Africa. I hate being politically correct. But my guess on y they hate them, could be because many Africans speak clearer English then African Americans.
