old wives tales:
Is it a boy or a girl?
If you're carrying high it's a boy and low, it's a girl.
If you're carrying in front, it's a boy and wide, it's a girl.
If you crave sweets, you'll have a girl.
If you crave meats or cheeses, you'll have a boy.
If you get red highlights in your hair, you'll have a girl.
If your belly gets hairy, you'll have a boy.
Dark nipples mean you're having a boy.
If you have morning sickness early in pregnancy, it's sure to be a girl.
If you look a little "rough around the edges," it must be a girl because girls steal their mother's looks.
If your skin breaks out, you're sure to have a girl.
If your right breast is bigger, it will be a boy. If your left breast is larger, it will be a girl.
If your hands are dry and chapped, it will be a boy.
If your feet are not colder than they were before pregnancy, you're having a girl.
Suspend a needle from some thread and have someone hold it one inch above your hand. If the needle swings back and fort, a girl is in your future. If it moves in a circle, you can count on a boy.
Hang your wedding ring from a strand of the father's hair over your belly. If the ring moves side to side, it'll be a girl. If it swings, it will be a boy. Also, be sure to count the rotations that the ring makes to find out how many children you'll carry in your lifetime.
(alternate version) To predict the sex of a baby: Suspend a wedding band held by a piece of thread over the palm of the pregnant girl. If the ring swings in an oval or circular motion the baby will be a girl. If the ring swings in a straight line the baby will be a boy.

What is your question? You mean, the mom doesn't want to know, but the dad does?? If so, when the woman goes for her 20 week ultrasound, have the U/S tech write down the sex of the baby on a slip of paper and hand it to the father. That way, he'll know and it'll still be a surprise for the mom.
The only 100% way to find out definitely for sure what your baby's sex is is to do an amniocentesis, but most doctors don't recommend them unless it's an emergency as they can harm the baby or possibly cause the woman to miscarry.

Amniocentesis is the only sure way to know the sex of an unborn child. I was told by ultrasound that my first was a girl, and it turned out to be a boy who was just turned the wrong way.
Amniocentesis actually checks the chromosomes and can tell you for certain what sex the child is...but they are expensive...AND the mother would know for sure because they stick a long needle into your uterus through your belly to draw out fluid from the amniotic sac.

No there isn't any reliable way, other than an ultrasound. If you google it you'll find a lot of people claiming to have a way, but there is absolutely no real way of knowing. The best you can do is guess, and your chances of being right is 1/2.

you can do an ultrasound. the doctor will not show or tell you if you do not want to know. but they can write it down for other prople to see, or incase you change your mind. the only other way is to get an amnio, wich they only give you if they think there is a problem. this is when they take fluid out of your stomache through a needle and look at all the chromasones to run tests...definitly not recommended.

If it is alright with the mother, she can get an ultra sound and when they determine the sex, the mother can just not look at the screen and the person doing the ultra sound could write it down or tell the person who wants to know, in private. This has to be okay with the mother though.

Yes! Usually you can tell by the belly, if the woman is carring low its a boy if she is carring high its a girl. This is just a old wifes tale but only once has it proved me wrong!
