sonftener wont help. In fact, it reduces the absorbency of the towels... :) Why dont you hang them dry and then throw them in the dryer for 10 minutes to soften them. That way, you save by drying them outside, and they are still soft. Used to work for me until we got used to the sandpaper....:)

It is not because you hang your towels on the line why they are rough, and buying the most expensive softener will not make them any less rough. Why don't you try Suavitel, it is the most delicate type of softener, most mothers' use it when cleaning their baby's clothes, and not just that they also smell very nice.

i hang my towels onthe line all the time... all I use is Downy, alittle more then i usually use, I shake the towels out before I hang then out. then when they are done drying I shake them again and fold them. If they are to rough, put them in the dryer for a short time. like 5 or 6 minutes just to fluff... I love the smell of anything hung out on the line.... Good luck

The whole idea of hanging laundry outside is to obtain that wonderful fresh clean scent. Try using a fabric softener in the wash. Good luck!

I totally agree, Maybe using a fabric softener will help, but I have had the same trouble until I bought a dryer.

Dry them on the line to conserve electricity. Then toss them in the dryer with a damp wash cloth for a few minutes. Mine fluff back up!

You need to dry the towels in a dryer. I know it sucks but when you dry them out on the line they get like that. Or when you take them off the line you can bunch them up and scrunch them and roll them around and then fold 'em.

We have the same problem. It's the trees. They breathe out a sap-like substance. Sorry, the only cure is an automatic dryer.

Dry them out side like usual and then put them in the dryer on fluff for a few.....also put in a fabric sheet.
