At 18, people are considered adults and mature to make a decision on who will lead the country. One thing I never agreed with is that when you are 18..you can smoke, vote, and serve your country in military, and do dirty movies if you so desire, but you cant have a beer. It makes no sense.

I assume you left a word out of that. You can't vote until you are 18.

Well there has to be a lower limit somewhere. Do you expect a 2 year old to vote?

Historically, it was 21. It got lowered to 18 during the Vietnam war, when everybody realized if you were old enough to fight and die for your country, you sort of should be able to vote for or against the azzholes sending you there.

What age do you think it ought to be lowered to? I could almost go with 16. Younger than that, I just don't see where they are ready to make those decisions.

If you mean why can't people vote until they are 18, it is because the Federal Government recognizes a person as being an adult at the age of 18 years.

Really the government wants the tax payers to vote. Until age 18 you are dependent even if you have a job and are exempt from taxes.
After 18 you start paying taxes just like the rest of the grown ups in the country.

Its the tax payers that get to vote or the people that are eligible to be tax payers (ie. anyone over 18 is a potential tax payer).

The others are correct in that is has to do with age of legally being an adult. Though I have to say it is nice to know that someone who is young wants to vote, some many people who are old enough to vote choose not to. That is a right that so many people have fought for and we need to appreciate it and utilize it!

People don't have to vote until they are 18...they are not allowed to vote until they are 18...BECAUSE 18 is considered to be the age that people are "responsible adults". You can also be drafted at 18, as well as tried as an adult in court. With privilege comes responsibility.

My guess would be because more 18 and under know nothing about politics and how the world works, and they would be voting based on some issues they could careless about...(for the most part)

Could lead to the wrong leaders coming into power....

It is because in the US a person is recognized as an adult at 18. Younger people are naive and might vote based on what their parents, teachers, or even what their tv set tells them.

I think you wanna ask y cant ppl vote until they're 18?

Thats bcoz the wise old men of the world think that at the age of 18 the human mind is fully capable of thinking bout his wellness. They think he's smart enough to allow other ppl to screw up his future.

Because we aren't aware enough and blah blah blah... I personally think that it should depend on the person. Yah know like some kind of test to make sure we have all of the facts before we vote. I know I'm fighting a losing battle here, but hey, I think my ideas should count!!!
