How did the queen of slayers end?(the buffy book)?

I haven't read the book, but I did see the final ever episode of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer TV series, and if it's anything the same then Buffy's entire hometown is blown to smitherines by the death of the vampire queen.
I thought the show wrapped up too neatly, answering all the important question I had been asking through the show's life, and made perfect sense that only Buffy and Angel would survive, driving off into the distance with this massive crater behind them where the town once was. Too neat!
