When I graduate from school in 2008, i want to go to school (college) and continue my eduacation, I am thinking about going for medical-nursing or nurses aid, music-singing-playing in a band, being a cheif (culinary arts). I am more wanting to be devoted to nursing becaise I like to help people. To find part of my education, my senior year at high school I am going into a program called the Mentor Program that helps you with what you want to do for when you want to go to college and it gives you a chance to see what all of this is like, I would like to also deal with babies. Can you tell me something about nursing school in college? Thanks.

Yes. There are 2-3 different paths to take. You can go to a technical school and take a 1 year diploma couse and become a liscensed practical nurse after you pass boards or you can opt for a 2 year Assoc. Degree Registered nursing degree, which would be much more preferred in the workplace, not to mention the greater pay scale. You could also go to a University/college program to get a Bachelors degree in nursing which would give you another avenue besides patient care. Those avenues would be legal, administrative or research. I would go the ADN route (2 year) to get started and after boards and a couple of years go back to get your BSN. The health care field is screaming for nurses and starting pay is very good wherever you go. Some health care facilities will pay for you to return to school to get a BS in nursing. You probably would want to stay away from Nurse assistant, they get worked to death with little pay and too little thanks. Talk to someone at your local Technical school, your guidance counselor, or you can e-mail the American Board of Nursing for information on being a nurse. Stick with the ADN program and I wish you the best.

Nursing school in college is a VERY challenging but wonderfully rewarding major. There is just so much to learn, perhaps more than in most other majors, plus you have to spend a LOT of time doing clinicals in nursing homes/hospitals. It becomes the center of your life because that major just takes up more of your time than any other, in my experience. But I think there is no other major that is as rewarding either. Go for it! You might want to try doing some volunteer work at a local hospital for a while.

You can't expect people to help you, when others ask for a prayer and you belittle their beliefs.
