Do what "D" said then

Uncheck the un-needed programs that run in start up programs in MSCONFIG
Route Start>Run> type in msconfig > start up tab>
The programs down in right hand corner of screen are what you can turn off

Then restart computer.

Get "spybot search and destroy" software run that .

Do a defrag it will speed up computer unsure how it runs in ME
but it will help a bunch ,,.do a search if you don't know how.

The age and capacity of your computer has alot to do with it"s slowness. Try deleting alot of unneeded software and saved items on your computer and emptying the trash folder. Also could be your internet provider. DSL, if available in your area, is great and affordable. Amazing speed

sounds like you need to clear cookies and search history/
go to tools
on that go to interent option
then a window pops up
you will see clear cookies
click that then ok then it will clear cookies
to clear history
open same box[ tools] you will see clear history click that then ok

things usually speed up after you do that...
also...if you lose a page go back if that doesn't work
if you freeze up your pc
reboot and start over

You need more RAM memory. If you can upgrade do so. Even the slowest processors benefit from more RAM.
