I've had more than enough of America's nutjob politics, and am considering a move to another country in a few years. Canada is obviously high on my list, but I'd like to know a little more about it's political climate. It can't possibly be as crazy as our's(America's). Thanks, in advance.

Right now our country is a little pissed with the Liberals. There was a big scandal with some advertising firms, so when they were voted in, we gave them a minority government. Then when more details were publicized during the hearings, the Conservatives and BQ voted against them and defeated the government.

We still don't trust the Conservatives as they seem very much like Republicans, so we put them in with a minority governement. This means they have to compromise and work with the other parties in order to get things passed in the HofC.

No one really wants another election so most of the non Liberal parties are not trying to push the Conservatives out right now.

We're mostly working on things like reducing GST, funding medicare, better transfer payments with the provinces. Otherwise things are quiet with the Federal government.

I'm a Canadian and would describe our political climate as not bad. The Conservative Party of Canada currently holds power but are more centrist than the Republican Party of your country. We have troops in Afghanistan but not on the ground in Iraq. There is a debate being waged in my country if those troops should be in Afghanistan. Gay marriage is legal, abortion rights are protected, national medical coverage, the death penalty has been abolished for 40 years, and the chicks are hot.
I wish you all the best. Your welcome anytime.

Canada is a constitutional monarchy. It is a heavily splitered 5-party system. There is much regionalism, particularly regarding the French Canadians in Quebec. Very high taxation here with much social spending. Universal health care and less abject povery are the payoffs for the high taxes.

Quiet mostly. Sometimes, someone leaves the cap off the toothpaste and they have a debate, but not for a few years now.
