We observe four dimensions everyday, three spatial and time.
Time is called a dimension because it makes mathematical sense to do so.
But...theories such as string theory predict that the space we live in has in fact many more dimensions (frequently 10, 11 or 26), but that the universe measured along these additional dimensions is subatomic in size. As a result, we perceive only the three spatial dimensions that have macroscopic size.

This is not so strange as it sounds, which I'll show with an example. Imagine you are in an airplane, flying over sea. Seen from a height, the sea looks flat, two-dimensional. But when the plane looses height we start to perceive the waves, that move in a third direction we could see before.

The universe could be the same. Four macroscopic dimensions and a few more, hidden ones. We can only perceive them for instance, by the small effects their existence might have on subatomic particles.

The current theory (MTheory) points towards 11 dimensions.

As for describing them .. well ... since all of the descriptive words we have only describe our four dimensional universe that we interact with there is really no language available to describe the others.

One of the best thought experiments I have ever heard was to look at the top corner of the room you are in .... notice there are three planes that meet .. in the fifth dimension there are four planes that would meet to make a corner. Now, try and visualize that!

Try looking up Dr. Feynman's sum over histories theory. The theory basically states that the motion of subatomic particles could experience any path through space time and there exist a reality for each possibility.

This is the reality we experience. There are other realities for every conceivable possibility. Like where Kenedy wasn't shot or where we lost the Cold War.

String theory also predicts at least ten dimensions.

Scientist had proven that there are six dimensions in the universe: the three dimensions the we lived in right now, the dimension for time, the timension for antiparticles, and the dimension of mirror particles. All of those six dimensions that I mentioned had BEEN proven through research and observation by countless astrophysicist.

yes, it is only a theory. But if it were true, it would most likely be that an anti-matter based universe could exist paralell to ours, and perhaps black holes would then be possible touch-points between the two where collideing particles either destroy eachother or work together as a bridge or worm hole. But everything I just listed is theoretical and argueable only btween experts with too much time on their hands .

11 dimensions, 4 of which are the 3d universe we see + time, they are membrain's @ 1 mm apart, gravity is the only thing that crosses all dimensions. by using super heavy elements it is possible to amplify the gravity wave so that it extends just slightly outside of the atom thus allowing a high frequency shift through a transdimensional wormhole. there is no calculated way of destination/direction.

If we knew the answer to this, it wouldn't be a theory now would it? We don't know, we can only guess. Maybe we'd all be silicon based life forms instead of carbon based. Maybe we wouldn't exist at all.
