Once he gets more used to you, he (or she, heh) will calm down. It will just take time. Also, Hamsters might be a little upset if you just woke them up, they are really hungry, sick, etc. Hold them lightly and spend time with them, watching them run around on their own on the floor, bed, etc. As they get used to you, they will not be so scared when you are holding them (all of my hamsters calmed down over time).. i don't think so, me and my sister have hamsters and they try to escape. You just have to keep rotating your hands

maybe hold him when he has just eaten a huge meal.
anyway, if you hold him more often he might lose his fear.
