I do it all the time. I also refuse to answer the door at certain times. People feel they are obligated to be in constant contact with everyone but they're not. Do what feels right to you and let others deal with it.

I shut my cell phone off after about 9 pm and just keep my land line available. I started doing this after a coworker called my cell phone at 4:30 am looking for a key that she'd lost. I don't really care what anyone else thinks. When I'm at home or on down time people should respect that.

You know...I actually do that when I start expecting a phone call too much, especially from my boyfriend. Ill keep grabbing my cell phone to see if anyone call, so finally I just started turning it off or putting it in a room that I dont go to, too often..lol. I think the reactions depend, like if I were to call my girlfriend and she didnt pick up I wouldnt be mad..i frankly wouldnt care. On the other hand if it was my boyfriend..id go a little nuts, especially if I didn't here from him in that one day. I think it all depends on the person.

Yeah. I just tell them I was out, or needed some time to relax. If they don't understand then forget 'em.
You could forewarn ppl by saying, "This weekend I am going out of town". Then stay home and turn off the phone.
You could tell them you're having phone problems...if it's a cell, tell them the battery died.
I hate lying but some ppl are relentless so it's easier to lie than to argue.
Good Luck!

I´ve never done it, but it sounds great. Who reacted bad about your decision? You own your life, and if just for a weekend you want to be alone and peaceful, well, the hell with them. Good luck!!!

I have but I reminded everyone that I have voice mail.
I guess with cell phones, caller id, voice mail, etc, people think there is no reason why they shouldn't be able to immediately get in touch with whomever they might be calling.
Technology that was supposed to save us time has only made us more impatient.

Yes, and people freak out. They wonder if we are ok, where we are etc. Next time I am going to just tell everyone we can't be bothered, that the phones are going to be off and I will let them know when I turn them back on. lol

I do it all the time. Especially on Saturday mornings. And, I get the same bad reactions till they find out I'm fine. My dad and mom will call contantly if they can't get a hold of me...they worry.

Yes, I hate phones these days, especially cell phones! I really don't care what people think when I don't answer, or I turn my phone off. They'll get over it. I just tell them i didn't want to be bothered, and to get over it.
