President usually has to be rich, just because it costs a lot of money to run a campaign.

I'm assuming you're not from America. We choose presidents by elections, but it's usually a US Senator, Govenor, or other political person who is high in rank. Most are already making a decent living (considered to be in "white collar" living-- high society), but not all. Also, the president must be born in the United States to get the job. If the president dies in office, the Vice President, or the president's #2, takes over. This cycle continues if the Vice President dies. Never has a female or African-American been elected, although they have been nominated. A president can only hold office consectutively for 2 terms, which are 4 years each. Then he/she must "take a break" for four years to become eligible to be nominated again. (I'm not sure, don't quote this, but I think no president has ever been nominated for a third term after their four-year break) So the answer is no, the president does not have to be rich and famous to get the job. He also is not in total command, he has a system of people who vote (Congress) for his decisions. He can say yea or nay to it UNLESS 2/3 of the Congress or more vote the same, then he has no power, he must go with the majority. Hope that clears the fog for you.

Famous? No. Rich? Either that, or have some friends with seriously deep pockets. Running for President is something not everyone can do. The money for ads, campaigning, and just putting yourself out there needs to come from somewhere.

Rich? It helps -- The Bushes are rich the Kennedys were rich.
Carter, Reagan, Clinton -- not rich. Kerry is one on the richest people in the country, but it didn't get him elected. Ross Perot was rich when he ran.

Famous? Eisenhower was really famous and Reagan was well known. The others gained recognition through the course of their campaigns.

However, you need lots of money to run. They get it from campaign contributions.

Being famous certainly helped Arnold Schwartenegger and Jesse Ventura get elected governors of their states.

It almost seems like it. Maybe as Americans we should try someone that is not rich or well known for once. It couldn't hurt any worse than what we have now.

No, he just has to be willing to put up with the indignity of all the media nosing around into every aspect of his/her life. That's the problem with our current political system. The best and smartest people capable of leading our country are too smart to put themselves through this ordeal.

no. carter was not famous or rich, and he won. Regan was never a famous actor, and not extreemly well off before he ran for governor. Ford, FDR, Truman, Teddy, Jackson, Lincoln, Taylor....Clinton.

Do not need fame or money....just balls, perserverence, talent, intelligence, and personaloty.

watch Michelle Moores movie Farenheight 9/11 to see how Bush got himself elected - its rather scarey... he got himself RE-elected by using the Church, pastors actually TOLD people to vote for him.. even scarier

there are people who beleive their are bigger powers controlling the government - you can refer to David Icke for info on that.. its all conspiracy theories mostly ..

but bascially being rich and famous isnt it.. its who you are related to and who your friends are that will get you elected

No, but it sure doesn't hurt.

Seriously, if George W. Bush had been named George W. Smith, do you think anyone would have voted for him?
