White Gold
White gold is an alloy of gold and some white metals such as silver and palladium. White gold can be 18ct, 14ct, 9ct or any karat. For example, 18ct yellow gold is made by mixing 75% gold (750 parts per thousand) with 25% (250 parts per thousand) other metals such as copper and zinc. 18ct white gold is made by mixing 75%Traditionally nickel was used in white gold, however, nickel is no longer used in most white gold made today as nickel can cause reactions with some people. We do not use nickel in our white gold gold with 25% other metals such as silver and palladium. So the amount of gold is the same but the alloy is different.
When white gold rings are new they are coated with another white metal called Rhodium. Rhodium is a metal very similar to platinum and Rhodium shares many of the properties of platinum including its white color.
Platinum
Platinum is a white metal, but unlike gold it is used in jewellery in almost its pure form (approximately 95% pure). Platinum is extremely long wearing and is very white, so it does not need to be Rhodium plated like white gold.
Platinum is very dense (heavy), so a platinum ring will feel heavier than an 18ct gold ring.
Platinum is, however, very expensive. A platinum ring will be approximately twice the price of an 18ct white gold ring (excluding gemstone costs).

These are not the same.
Pt is more valuable than gold.
These are different elements.
"Eighteen-carat white gold consists of 75% gold mixed with 25% white metals. New white gold rings are usually coated with a hard protective finish of rhodium, a silver-white metal like platinum. To keep a white gold ring looking its best, Gillett's recommends an annual replating of rhodium, since the coating wears off over time.
Platinum, an entirely different element than gold, is a white metal that is denser, heavier, and longer-wearing than gold. It's usually used in almost pure form and does not require a protective coating. Platinum is quite expensive, a platinum ring is perhaps twice the price of a similar ring made in white gold."

White Gold
White gold refers to an alloy of gold and other white metals such as silver, palladium, or nickel. The natural colour of white gold is light grey and slightly yellow, so jewelry made of white gold is typically coated in highly reflective rhodium (sometimes coated in platinum)
Platinum
Platinum is a chemical element in the periodic table that has the symbol Pt and atomic number 78. A heavy, malleable, ductile, precious, grey-white transition metal, platinum is resistant to corrosion and occurs in some nickel and copper ores along with some native deposits. Platinum is used in jewellery, laboratory equipment, electrical contacts, dentistry, and automobile emissions control devices.

They are not the same. White gold is yellow gold coated with rhodium.
Platinum is more expensive. Whether that makes it more valuable or not is up to you.

whoever told you white gold it the same as platinum is totally wrong. anything made in platinum is going to cost four to five times or more than any gold. as a investor in silver, gold and platinum coins and bullion, white gold as all gold has a small amount of copper in it to make its hardness as gold is 22k and really soft. white gold is part of polished silver mixed in to give it that look of silverish gold. platinum is a extremely hard metal used in auto's, military rockets and others as it stands up to very high heat to melt. over 4,000 degree's.
