It is a new kind of thriller not the stereotyped spy chasing spy or everything being blown to pieces at the end. For the first time someone managed to blend in mythology with thriller genre. Well i can remember Michael Crichton's " Eaters Of The Dead " , like this but it was not so good. Also the theory about the Priory Of Scion & jesus's bloodline is a totally new concept to someone like me who lives in a 3rd world country ( India ) & is not a christian. Also it is a pacy thriller. Thus the book was such a huge success.

The Da Vinci Code is a great thriller, but that isn't why it is such a success. The reason this book sells so many copies is because it has become so controversial, and the reason it has become so controversial is because some people cannot accept that is a work of fiction. The book garnered a lot of free publicity from religious sects crying about how Dan Brown has maligned the church. I am a christian, attend church weekly, and yet i have the mental capacity to separate what i read in the news and what i read in a book i purchased in the fiction section of the bookstore. For anyone who is upset by the popularity of this novel, stop talking about it. That is what has really boosted the sales.

A nice mystery with an excellent blend of facts and fictions that make the entire thing more believable. If there is one thing that the book is really good at it is allowing the reader a high level of "suspension of disbelief".

As the Denver Post said 'Thriller writing doesn't get any better than this.' Unfortuantely, some people don't understand it's FICTION and think all that stuff Dan Brown writes about the Christian religion is false. about 99.8% is false. (99.9% being 100%)
