All those things apply, but ask yourself this: "Could I loan this person $100 and expect to get it back?"
If you answer "yes", then this person is a friend.
If you ask yourself "Could I loan this person $100 and couldn't care less if I get it back?", and the answer is "yes", then that person is a good friend.

Friendship certainly is something we all have a need for!
Yet, it's becoming more & more difficult to find good, long-lasting relationships of any kind. Those who -- either knowingly or unknowingly -- follow Bible principles, have the best possible freindships. These principles are included in the following articles:
How to Make Real Friends :
... We All Need Friends
...... Satisfying Our Hunger for Friendship
......... Good Friends - Bad Friends
............ A Note to Parents

Can we realistically expect someone else to be a good friend, if we aren't one ourselves?
Sincerely,
"Make Sure of All things; Hold Fast to what is Fine!" (1Th5:21)

They are honest and healthy to be around. Mutually and genuinely you like being around each other.
Most anyone will side with you when you are winning and when you are on top. A real friend will side with you even when you are losing or when you are wrong.
A good friend cares most about the relationship, not about the benefits, etc.
...and I would think a good friend is someone that you smile with more than normal.

All of those plus shared interests and beliefs. It takes time to build a friendship. Sometimes a person is not what he or she appears to be. Only time and even adversity will tell you what they are really like.
