I need the good vibes it provides. I'm not depressed but have been stressed lately and don't want to effect my baby. Stress increases cortisol production which can make my baby ... well...I know that would be a problem. Please answer the question which I asked. Thanks!

Thanks for all the excellent answers! I won't take it. I will exercise more regularly ~ I know that will help. By the way the doctors I know (my OB-GYN and husband ;-D) just say not to everything. My doc won't even let me ride my bike (my favorite exercise). Better than being sued, huh.

Ask your physician, but just know that very little research is done on the herbal remedies so information is spotty at best. Just to be on the safe side don't take them. Exercise, as prescribed by your doctor, will be a safer alternative and will help both your stress level and the health of your baby. Best of luck to you :)

On February 10th, 2000 the FDA issued a Public Health Advisory for certain drugs that may potentially interact with St. John's Wort. A study at The National Institutes of Health (NIH) showed a significant drug interaction between St John's wort and Indinavir, a protease inhibitor used to treat HIV infection. Concomitant administration of St. John’s Wort and Indinavir substantially decreased Indinavir plasma concentrations. Based on this study and reports in the medical literature, St. John’s Wort appears to be an inducer of an important metabolic pathway, cytochrome P450. As many prescription drugs used to treat heart disease, depression, seizures, certain cancers or to prevent conditions such as transplant rejection or pregnancy (oral contraceptives) are metabolized via this pathway, the FDA recommended that health care providers should alert their patients that St. John's Wort use might reduce the effectiveness of their medications. If you are taking any prescription medications, consult with your doctor before using St. John's Wort. If you are a woman or on the pill or like the sun (cataracts) you can not take this!

Do not take St. John's wort if pregnant or while nursing except on the advice of a health professional

Since St. Johns is an herb and not really regulated by the FDA, I would check with a doctor before taking that. I know you cant be in the sun when you take it and stuff like that.

honestly, i took st. johns wort as a teen (not when i was pregnant) and it stunted my physical growth.
I would not suggest it, anything untested is not safe risking the growth.
For stress: find a good time away spot in your home and just relax once a day.
And ask your partner or family to help share the load a little (if you havent yet)
Or go to pregnancy center to talk to a free counselor to just vent.

It isn't safe to take any thing not prescribed or endorsed by your dr. when you are pregnant! Call the dr. and talk to him about the stress you are under. There are things he can suggest to help you appropriately deal with your stress. Good luck!
