Probably corrupt files. Try this:
Locate your C: drive in Windows Explorer, r/clik it and select Properties, Tools tab, error-checking and click the 'check now' button. Check both the tick boxes and OK it. Next message box comes up, agree - YES! The restart your PC.
A blue screen / white text will appear and it may take up to an hour depending on the size of your HD and processor.
When that is done, try again. If the problem persists then do the following (if you have the XP installation CD, that is)

1: Insert the disk
2: If autorun begins, exit the program.
3: Go to START - RUN and type exactly this:
sfc /scannow

Any missing or corrupt system files, etc will be replaced.

Definitely sounds like a virus. I'd try running a full scan with a reputable antivirus program. Perhaps even two different programs in case something is missed by the first. Just DON'T run them at the same time under any circumstances!

Next thing I'd do is a disc cleanup (start -> programs -> accessories -> system tools - disc cleanup.) Put a check mark by everything and run it. Might take a while if you've never done it before. After that is finished I'd do a defrag. Same steps, when you get to system tools click on defragmentation.

After that, try rebooting and see if your browsers still crash. You might have to do an uninstall of each browser and then reinstall.

Hope this helps.

run cleansweep - (start/accesories/system tools/cleansweep) - to delete unused files and old programs
run antivirus software to make sure that system doesn't have any worms (number 1 case of system crashes)
run disk defragement (same as cleansweep instead pick disk defragment ) this will take a day for the system to put everything in it's right place if you've never done it but will set all problems right n system wil run smoother. it will also bring into the open anchor viruses n cookies that can be damaging your system

I would bet BIG money on a virus of some sort. If not, my first choice would be uninstall both of them, then reinstall. However, there are SO many dang viruses that attack our operating systems that slip by firewalls and checkers that you should let a professional help you if you are unable to fix the issue.

When any of my programs crash I click get more info button on the screen that pops up. Sometimes it has suggestions about updates you may need to download to run your program more smoothly. It happens a lot to me on yahoo sports too.
