we don't..it's quite obvious that it isn't. If you're going to question Intelligence instead of saying "Americans" name one that you know believes it to be true and go from there.

Some people (not me) find it real entertaining, but few people -- including small children -- actually see it as a real sports competition. WWF is entertainment, full of acting and posturing and costumes. The performers have to be fairly athletic and there is a real possibility someone could get hurt, even though a lot of it is staged. I imagine it's the same danger stuntmen face. I've always assumed that the winners and losers are picked ahead of time, making it possibly a little less real than American Idol.

They saw a President shot, a man walk on the moon - all LIVE!!!! Since then they haven't moved from in front of the box in case they miss anything else and believe everything they see. Why do you think they seem to have the most religious cults, "normal" religion robbing them blind via the TV. They have been brainwashed by the media, by advertising and anything else they see on the box. They got it all first - problem is, it's spreading worldwide. They flock to see WWF in the UK and believe it's real (but at least their average age is about 10). There's McDonalds in China, so how long will be before we're holding telethons for the poor, morbidly obese Chinese children!

As far as I know the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is real and has been going strong for years.
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is not real. It's a bunch of stunt actors in the midst of a soap opera. What's the big deal if it is or is not real? Last time I checked the History Channel, C-SPAN, Fox News, MSNBC, are not known as the big 4 despite showing all their news and historical content.

Sorry to ruin your illusion but the WWF is real, and they should be comended for their sterling work in trying to prevent the utter destruction of a lot of species of animals.
If you mean the WWE, then it's because sadly, too many undereducated people believe in it. Sadly this trait has spread to our shores and many (again undereducated) believe that the spandex clad buffoons are indeed really hitting each other with chairs etc..

They only treat wwf the same way as everyone treats soaps. It is easy to get really interested in a story line but that does not mean you are confusing it with reality. Its just entertainment.

Oh sure, mock us for our beliefs, go ahead... and while we're at it let's look at all the other fairy tales
Santa Claus,
Tooth Fairy,
The lottery
7 virgins waiting for you in the promised land if you use yourself as a human bomb.
Like other's beliefs are so much more credible
and stop stereotyping - we don't all hail the WWF.

I'm assuming you're referring to WWE.
I really don't think many Americans think it's "real" per-se...but they do appreciate it for what it is, fun entertainment.
I don't watch it. My father enjoys it and he's in his 50s. I remember many mornings when he and my brother would watch wrestling for hours. It's a nice memory.
Professional "wrestling" is choreographed. It's planned out and it is indeed designed for maximum thrills and entertainment. However, I do think it's rather insulting to the people involved to consider it "fake". These are truly tremendous athletes who's bodies are continually subjected to so much abuse that their post-wrestling careers are often wrought with incredible pain and disability.
You ask this question smugly and with your nose turned up. It's rather sickening. Get off your high horse, jerk, and go on back to watching your sophisticated shows like "Big Brother" or "MTV Europe" and shove your thumb up your ***.

According to a survey done by Krellers, International, Inc. only 0.1% of all Americans believed that pro wrestling was real.
In adult Americans over the age of 18, only 0.01% of those surveyed believed that pro wrestling was real.
