Every woman is different, as well as every doctor. You might want to call the docs office right now and ask him.

I would check with your doctor first. Whatever is the "rule of thumb" you may have special issues that limit your activity.

Continuing to exercise while pregnant will help your energy level, reduce the odds of exessive weight gain, and can make labor and recovery easier.

Most women need to slow down a bit. This isn't time to train for a marathon or be a hardcore body builder.

You may find something that involves gentle stretching and strength training better, like yoga or pilates.

Avoid things that require a lot of pounding or twisting of the joints as your ligaments loosen up and you can dislocate stuff easier and that will HURT!

It may be worth the money to invest in a session with a personal trainer who specializes in pregnant women. That $25-50 could be money very well spent.

At this point i don't see a good reason why you would want to do crunches when you have a unstoppable growing belly. It won't be good for the baby. Good exercise now can be moderate jogging. Kegel exercises are good now also to make a better labor and delivery. It's the flexing of the pelvic muscles. You flex and relax every time you think about it. It helped me in my first pregnancy. But please, no crunches.

My doctor and two books (what to expect being one) says it's safe to do ab workouts up to 12 weeks, but also asks why you would want to. No use right now.

If you've been doing exercises up until you got pregnant, you can continue to exercise while pregnant, in moderation. You should discuss it with your doctor though.
