Is spam there because it actually is getting business, or is it just someone sending it to be annoying?

I mean I can't imagine that emails like: HOtgURlz694uBIgMaN, GrowURSelfBIGwitViag_rA, and "Buy this new herbal suppliment from me, it keeps you smart!" ever could find anyone to click on them not by accident, and then actually buy something from some unknown internet person.

That is because you are familiar with spam and you are smart enough to ignore them.

There are thousands of people everyday who join the internet world. There are new people everyday who get on the internet that has never heard of the internet and is totally amateur to it. The spammers target the "spam ignorant" people who will actually believe it and click on it.

People like you and me who are exposed to this everyday and know what its about will easily ignore it. The ones that have no knowledge fall victim to it everyday. Those are the ones that make the spammers continue what they are doing.

It is there simply because there are thousands of internet users to be fooled. I mean have you really noticed people who log on to the net looking for easy ways to earn loads of cash? They actually believe it is possible.

Spam is out there because it is a cheap way to reach people and even if only one in 100,000 responds, it becomes worthwhile. If everyone vows never to respond to spam - don't ever follow up on anything you did not request, then it becomes less profitable and hopefully will be used less. in practical terms, it is not going to go away because someone out there responds and there are always new people trying it, including the entire population of Nigeria.
