Do you have sensor that measures the heat? Is it gas or electric? If gas the pilot may not be lighting which is an easy change. If electric the coils may not be energizing. In either case you will need to take apart some pieces to see see if you get any spark or heating element to start. A good site to read up on this is repair clinic.com they go over all appliaonces. Have your model and make of dryer ready.

You are on the right track about the door sensor. A drier will not fail completely as described unless it has an interlock keeping it from running. Usually it's the heating element, or the motor, but rarely both will fail at the same time. The door interlock switch is not difficult to replace, but it takes some mechanical skill and time. That's why the repairman wants to charge you $200. He will take about 2-4 manhours to replace your $2 switch. If you have mechanically inclined friend to help it can be done yourself, but it will take time and you won't have room in your laundry room to work. So take it to the garage or to a covered porch area.

Sounds like one of the heat coils that goes around the drum has shorted-out. It can be replaced and inexpensive part-wise, but if you're not familiar with the insides of a dryer best to call a repair tech.

You don't say what brand. but it is probably the heating element. Or if it is on fuses it could be one fuse is blown keep in mind most dryers run on 120 volts and heat on 240 volts.

did you empty the lint trap, there might be something stuck in it, and if not call the maker of your dryer im sure they can help you out, and if they can't help, call someplace that sells dryers, say that you bought one not to long ago from them, and that your having a problem and see if they have any advice i hope one of these will work

it could be the heating element, on old dryers they stop working sometimes, call your local repair man and find out how much for him to come fix it.
