Why do you think so many people just do what everyone else is doing, and worry about it if they are different from those around them?

I defiantly don't think being normal is important and what is normal anyway?Being one of many that's the same..i prefer to be an individual, i prefer to think on my own an to make my own decisions. I have always tried to not give in to peer pressure and i think i did a pretty good job i was never a follower i tried to be a leader in my life and think i succeeded OK. Now as a mother i can look my children in the eye and say..its ok to say no i did and it never really hurt me in a social way.and to a teen or child that's important.Being accepted is on of the things as humans we long for.

Being normal in the sense of health and physical capabilities, yes.
To do what everyone else does, I wouldn't put it in the category of being normal. I would consider that being a follower. Everyone is different and has their own likes and dislikes, thoughts and desires. If you feel something is better for you or there is something you don't care for, don't do it. This is socially and privately( not in school or a job) If we all thought the same and did things the same, it sure would be boring. There would be nothing interesting about anyone. Some people just follow because they want to fit in with a certain group and be accepted. They should think for themselves and maybe a different group of people will come TO THEM.

A lot of people are close minded simply because they are scared of change and/or stuck in there ways.

I LOVE being different. It makes me unique. I stand out in a crowd. Everybody actually remembers me because I am so special, and unique!!!

All around though I think it makes you a better person to open to change because not only are you happy but the people around you are happy all together it makes for a happy life!!!!

"Desire to be normal" is nothing more than sheep mentality.
You should always do what you think is right, reach your own conclusions independently and be yourself. Those entities that promote and tell people to comform to social standards, usually are nothing more than an attempts to control us and stifle our right to think freely and act in our best interest.

Like Confucius, the Chinese philosopher, once said... "What the superior man seeks is in himself, what the small man seeks is in the others"

i don't know, i think thats apart of life...we all want to just fit in.
it does matter to me till some extent that i am normal but it is also important to me that i am unique and different in some ways to distinguish my own being.
