The meaning of derived quantity is a solution to a problem.
The solution of the problem begins by taking known ‘quantities’ (like F=ma) and use them to build a model of the problem using information supplied by the statement of the problem. The solution is then obtained by manipulating the model employing accepted mathematical rules.

The ability to derive solution increases our ability to solve problems.

Sometimes when you are solving a problem, you will realize that you need some pieces of information to solve the problem. While some may be given in the problem, others need to be solved for using other givens. A quantity that is not originally given is a derived quantity.

For example, when solving for force using:
Force= mass * acceleration
sometimes, they will tell you that the mass is given( i.e, 1 kg)
However, they give other givens where you can solve for acceleration, such as velocity and distance.
The accelaration is the derived quantity.

In Physics we are having many physical quantities. Each quantity is related to one another in one way or other.

The minimum of three quantities are needed to express all these quantities in term of these three quantities. We call them as fundamental quantities.

The mass, length and time are taken as fundamental quantities.

All other quantities can be formulated or derived from any two or all the three quantities. Therefore all other quantities other than these three fundamental quantities are called derived quantities.

For example force is derived from mass x length / square of time.
